Responsibilities Of A Garments Merchandiser

A merchandiser is a very important officer for the ready-made garment industry. His responsibilities are immense. In a word, the merchandiser is the one who manages the entire process from product production to marketing to sales.

We can also say that a garment merchandiser is like a bridge between the buyer and industry. He has to look after every job like buying the raw materials which is required to finish the product, making the garment, finishing the garment, preparing documentation and finally shipping. Actually, he is the main responsible person to make the product in timely. 

Merchandising is one of the most attractive fields for building a career in the buying house/garments and textile sectors. Not only in the country, but due to the huge demand of the garment industry in the current world market, it is a bit easier to get a job in this profession than in all other professions. This profession is considered as the lifeblood of the garment industry for building value-dignity, responsibility, and a good career.

Today want to share with you the basic responsibilities of a garments merchandiser.

1.       Received sales sample order (SO+MMC+AW) from buyer.

2.       Forward to sample department.

3.       Keep and update your status.

4.       Fabric and trims booking and in-house accordingly.

5.       Arrange and send 1st sample with all actual to buyer within dead line.

6.       Making price and send to buyer (Price Negotiation)

7.       1st sample approved for SMS sample/comments.

8.       1st sample comments forward to sample section and other department.

9.       If get any comments on 1st sample then send revise sample immediately.

10.    After 1st sample approval arrange SMS sample and send to buyer.

11.    Final price making and send to buyer by mail communication.

12.    Now SMS comments received and forward to sample and other department.

13.    Purchase order (PO) received from buyer. (Measurements Chart / Artwork / PO Sheet etc.)

14.    Forward all details to sample departments for bulk CAD for fabric booking.

15.    Bulk fabric + Trims and Accessories booking.

16.    PP (Pre-Production) sample making according to SMS comments.

17.    Send PP Sample and take approval from buyer for bulk production.

18.    PP Sample comments forward to sample and other departments.

19.    If get any comments on PP sample then send revise PP sample immediately.

20.    File handover to planning and GPQ department.

21.    Size set making according to PP Sample comments.

22.    Size set review by GPQ.

23.    PP (Pre Production) meeting arrangement.

24.    Proceed for bulk cutting (following GPQ instruction if needed)

25.    Bulk production (printing / embroidery / sewing) starts.

26.    Inline inspection by GPQ.

27.    Arrange 3rd party garments physical / chemical test (SGS / BV) if required.

28.    Arrange shipment sample and send to buyer.

29.    Final inspection by GPQ / Buying house QC

30.    Arrange for Ex-factory / Shipment and providing plan to store.
